Thoughts of Fahrenheit 451

So far, in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, I am a little bit confused. Who is this girl Clarisse McClellen that Guy Montag meets on the street. She confused me when she kept asking so many questions. I feel as if she was butting into Montag's life by asking these questions about firefighters. I have a feeling that Clarisse is going to be a main character in the book, and have a huge impact on the way Montag lives and acts. I feel like they will also become very close through out this book also.
I chose this book because when i read the excerpts 1984 didn't grab my attention like Fahrenheit 451 did. I don't know what I was interested in the book but i was.

Meag: Interesting thoughts here. You say that Clarisse asks so many questions. What effect do they have on Montag? How might Clarisse and her questions have a "huge impact on the way Montage lives and acts?"

As you continue reading, consider how his wife might answer if she was asked if she was happy.

Good job. Keep reading.

MEAG BIG MACK. Clarisse did ask too many questions. She just met Montag and she doesnt need to know all that stuff about him. MILLER THINKS TO MUCH

Meag, I was also confused about these same things, yet after reading other peoples posts I got introduced to other peoples ideas and thoughts. I think that the blog has been helping a lot. The group conversations also help with the questions. Now I think that its much easier to understand the book as we discuss these issues. I also agree that Clarisse asks many questions, this may attach to the fact that shes curious and wants to get to know people and what they know in comparisson to what she knows.

Meaghan-
You had many interesting points here. I was confused as well in the beginning of this book. Even now, since we are further into the book, I am still a little confused. You said, "I have a feeling that Clarisse is going to be a main character in the book, and have a huge impact on the way Montag lives and acts." I had the same feeling, but now shes gone. What do you think could have happened to her? Do you think maybe she disappeared because someone found her reading books? Maybe she was hiding them all along and that's why shes so different. I mean, how do you explain why shes so different? You also said that Clarisse and Montag may become really close throughout this book. How? They have no feelings, well Montag doesn't. I'm curious to hear what you think. As we read on maybe something will come up that will answer some of these thoughts and questions.
